Stanley J. Durtan, Ed.D.
I am delighted to welcome you to the Wissahickon School District’s updated web site. This web site has been designed to effectively inform all users about the people, programs, practices and accomplishments of our school district. I encourage you to explore it thoroughly as a first step in gaining familiarity with our schools. I also know that face-to-face communication is another effective way to learn about our schools. With that in mind, I invite you to contact me or any other member of the Wissahickon School District administrative staff to discuss our school district.
All individuals involved with the Wissahickon School District focus on facilitating student academic achievement and individual well-being. We are a diverse and high achieving school district that is committed to maximizing the potential of each of our 4700-plus students from the Borough of Ambler and the Townships of Lower Gwynned and Whitpain. Each of our seven schools possesses a unique character while keeping true to common beliefs in the value of holding high expectations for each student and respecting individual differences. Every employee is committed to providing our students with the very best educational experience.
The Wissahickon Board of School Directors has provided a clear and unwavering focus for the district by adopting three goals. They are:
• To maximize the academic achievement of each student,
• To eliminate the achievement gap,
• To operate all programs with a focus on both efficiency and accountability.
While these goals have provided guidance to our improvement efforts, the District will begin the Strategic Planning process this fall. This process will facilitate substantial community involvement and communication, the results of which will chart our roadmap to the future.
As each of our schools prepare for their “grand” opening in September, I want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank the Wissahickon Board of School Directors, our students and their families, each district employee, and our entire community for the unwavering support that is consistently provided.
Best wishes for a terrific school year!
