friday update

Welcome back to the 2008-2009 Wissahickon school year. I trust your summer was relaxing and fun, providing much needed quality time with your family and friends.

As we embark on a new year, the Wissahickon staff is looking forward to sharing their love for teaching and learning with you and the 4,700+ students we serve from the Borough of Ambler and the Townships of Lower Gwynned and Whitpain. We are all looking forward to a school year filled with new experiences and learning.

Wissahickon continues to stay focused on state standards and student productivity at the proficient levels. We believe all children have the ability to learn, we encourage all children to work to their fullest potential and we expect their personal best at all times.  In accordance with our district goals adopted by the Wissahickon Board of School Directors, our staff will strive to:

  • Maximize the academic achievement of each student,
  • Eliminate the achievement gap,
  • Operate all programs with a focus on both efficiency and accountability.

Due to numerous retirements last year, we have recruited 12 new highly qualified teachers administrators this year. We have also made significant enhancements to our curriculum and greatly expanded technology in all of our seven schools. We look forward to showcasing these and other exciting changes at our Back to School Nights held throughout September.

We welcome your attendance at this and other upcoming school meetings and encourage your involvement in all school activities. We will have many projects and activities happening throughout the school year where your help will make a difference.  It’s important for your child to see you involved in his/her education both in the classroom and out.

In an effort to improve communication with our staff and community about school news and initiatives, we will have a new monthly e-newsletter, “Wissahickon Connections”, which will be posted on the website and can be emailed directly to you. Our TV station, WTV, will begin a news program, “Wissahickon Today”, beginning on September 22nd. This will be available via the website and we hope to have it on cable later this fall.

Stay tuned…Again, we all look forward to working with you this school year!
